Role Title: Treasurer
Location: Regular travel to SIG Central Office, Services, and Board Meetings
Role Commitment: Meetings are held in the evening in a central location, usually within Highbury and Islington area/Angel, or virtually. There are 4 meetings plus one away day each year. The total time for commitment is in the region of four hours per month
About the Role
We are looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees to manage the financial health of the organisation, ensuring compliance, and support strategic decision making. Our Trustees are central to ensuring governance, strategic oversight and ethical leadership across the organisation. They work collectively to shape the long-term strategy, oversee organisational performance, manage risk, and ensure SIG operates with integrity, transparency, and in the best interest of beneficiaries to achieve our organisational objectives, utilising the funds entrusted to us for long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Ensure organisational financial viability
- Work with Chief Executive and Finance Officer to achieve the financial sustainability of the organisation
- Oversee and approve budgets, accounts, and financial statements
- Oversee the integrity of financial planning, management, and reporting, ensuring effective use of resources and organisational sustainability
- Ensure robust internal controls, audit processes, risk management, and compliance frameworks are in place
- Provide governance, support and oversight in line with Charity Commission expectations, statutory responsibilities and legal obligations
About You
They are keen to have an inclusive board, therefore backgrounds and experience though important is matched by the need for the passion, ambition and interest to help SIG fulfil its mission. Your background is less important but if you are either within the charity or non-profit sector or within an organisation that operates in a similar environment, engaged in the medical profession or a service user or carer, this is of particular interest to the current board.
The successful candidates will demonstrate:
- A clear commitment to the charity’s mission and values, with a genuine passion for making a positive impact in the community
- The capacity to participate actively and from an informed position
- A willingness to use personal networks and resources of relevance to SIG’s charitable purpose
- A passion for their work, and to promoting SIG and its subsidiaries as an organisation
- A firm understanding and respect for the Nolan Principles of Public Life
