Jatin Patel
When I joined SIG at OPD HASS Farley Road back in 2020, I thought it would be a brief stint — a few months to gain some experience before moving to work for the NHS. Fast-forward to today, and I’m still here four years later, grateful for the chance to build my career within SIG.
For me, staying at SIG has been about alignment — both personal and professional. This organisation’s values echo my own, making SIG a place where I feel truly at home. My professional goals in forensic psychology focused on rehabilitation, reintegration, and a holistic approach to supporting individuals, aligned perfectly with SIG’s vision. The expansion of our services has given me opportunities I hadn’t anticipated, putting me in the right place at the right time to grow and contribute.
From my time in the OPD pathway to leading an Approved Premises, SIG has provided opportunities for me to deepen my experience and broaden my perspective. When I felt ready to take on more strategic responsibilities, SIG was there with new opportunities, encouraging me to step up and become a Head of Service.
In my early days at SIG, I participated in every project, focus group, and consultation. I wanted to contribute, learn, and make my mark. As my responsibilities grew, my time for extra projects lessened, but I still find ways to stay engaged. Shaping the organisation and helping it move forward is important to me, and it’s something that can be invaluable for your own growth too. I encourage you to get involved wherever you can.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky to work with fantastic colleagues who’ve encouraged and supported my growth. I’ve found mentors, peers, and allies who share a passion for what we do and a commitment to making SIG better every day. Find your people here — those who will challenge, guide, and inspire you.
SIG has so much to offer, and internal mobility is a powerful way to make the most of it. If you’re ready to take on new challenges, I encourage you to explore opportunities here, get involved, and let your curiosity and ambition lead the way. Together, we can continue to shape the future of SIG, one career step at a time.
